Evaluation Question 2 - Social Representation (Resit)
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
The first very first news story in the News Bulletin is a story which focuses on a local mother that negated to take her child to school. This may show the people of Grimsby in a bad light, as the story takes a fairly negative view on the actions of the woman in question, this may reflect poorly on the rest of the town.
The story also mentions 'Depression' which could portray those that suffer from depression as irresponsible and weak, it suggests that sufferers of depression mightn't be able to carry out the simplest of tasks.
Finally, this story may show women in a bad light as it is a Woman that is the focus of the negative story, and it may also represent men in a bad way, as the father is also somewhat responsible.
The next story of the bulletin, was about a 'Cyclogenesis' which is more or less a weather warning for the people of the local area, this story doesn't represent any particular social groups.
The third article in the broadcast is about a 26 year male from Grimsby that was attacked and left in critical condition. This article may also represent the local area to seem dangerous or violent as the story is based in Grimsby and is presumably where the attackers were from.
On the other hand the article also represents the local area in a positive way, as an 'anonymous businessman' had put up money as an award for the capture of the attackers, this suggests that local people want justice and are not all violent bad people.
The final part of the broadcast focuses on John Fenty the GTFC Director, which represents him in a successful way as the story focuses on advances with planning a new stadium which makes Fenty seem on top of things and seem like a successful director.
