Identity for Radio Show
In this task me and my team members came up with a name for our radio station and we also decided what the target audience would be in terms of demographics of the audience. This is vital to the operation as the the demographics dictate who our target audience will be and as a result dictate what kind of stories we will be including.
Our radio station will be called Atarax FM. The reason we have chosen this name is because our radio station will keep people up to date with the local news in the surrounding Humber region. Our audience is people between the ages of 16-45, or anyone who has a particular interest in the local news. It will most likely be people who are in the middle or upper class who listen to the radio a lot. It will also be for people who are from more wealthy backgrounds. This radio show’s target audience is from social groups A-C2. Group A is people who are very skilled and in positions of authority. They may listen to the radio station because they are interested in the economic news and local news stories. Group B might be interested in listening to our radio station because they also want to learn about the local news, as they may be interested in this. Group C1 might want to listen to our radio station because they want to listen to the weather reports and local news. Group C2 will want to listen to our radio station for our local traffic updates and news, also they may want the weather reports. Our radio show is for people anyone.
Viking FM:
The target demographic age for Viking FM is between 25-55. The ratio between males and females is 46.8% for females and 53.2% for males. This radio station doesn’t aim for a similar target audience as our radio station as we are aiming for a younger age range because we think that our age range can cover a variety of different stories within the local news
Lincs FM:
The target audience for Lincs FM regarding gender is a 50/50 split and it has a family audience. Which is very similar to ours as we aim to have an equal gender split and to have it for 18-35 which fits into the criteria of a family audience, I think there audience is like this because of the same reasons as our reasons, to get a larger view count due to the large target audience.
Our audience will be similar to these radio stations, however our station will focus more on the younger groups of audience. It will feature local news including around 5 news bulletins of the most recent news in the area. We will aim to make the radio show last for approximately 5 minutes. We may also feature weather and traffic reports that would be featured on other radio stations to make a broad range of news. The news we present will be more related to the type of audience we have selected to listen to our radio show. News such as local sport, crime and economy will be most relevant and interesting to these groups. 16-45 year olds will be more interested in news such as the economy, job cuts and employment. The sports section will also be more relevant to younger players who will generally have interest in sports such as their local football teams et etcetera.
Our radio shows radius for listeners will mainly focus around N.E Lincolnshire, including areas such as Grimsby, Louth, Lincoln and Hull. The news will stay strictly local unless it is national news that has an impact on the local area.
